Emma Habgood
Emma Habgood joins Beacon Academy with more than twenty years of experience in education - both in the USA and in her native country of Wales, United Kingdom. Emma moved to Chicago in 2007, working as the Head of English and Drama at The British International School of Chicago. After five years, she returned to Wales to complete her master's degree in English Literature, after which she returned to the United States and began working at the British International School of Boston. However, her love for the city of Chicago eventually called her back and she returned to the city in 2020, working as IB Coordinator at GEMS World Academy and then as the Head of English and Performing Arts at The British International School of Chicago. Emma is passionate about the power of literature, theatre, and the arts in education, and values using these as tools to enable students to learn more about the world around them, whilst also honing their skills of critical thinking and communication. In her free time, Emma enjoys reading, attending the theater and experiencing live music, as well as traveling and visiting new places as much as possible. She lives in Chicago with her partner and their dog and three cats.
