The Importance of Athletics

Athletics help each player achieve higher standards of mental, moral, social, and physical fitness. Competition teaches our students how to win and lose with dignity. It is our hope that athletics can provide our students with an arena outside of the classroom in which to develop the confidence and inspiration needed to strive for both individual and team success.

Beacon is a full member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and participates in the Lake Shore Athletic League. Sports programs include volleyball, cross-country, tennis, swimming, sailing, soccer, self-defense, basketball, squash, fencing, ultimate frisbee, and track.  Participation on all teams is open to any student who maintains the minimum IHSA grade requirements and regularly attends practices and games.  Beacon continues to be responsive to student athletic interests and seeks to provide the best and most viable options.

Developing Teamwork

Athletics are valued as an important component of the student experience at Beacon Academy. Through athletics, students have the opportunity to discover the rewards and skills involved in being a team member. Such an experience can establish models for cooperation that carry over into every aspect of life.

The Beacon athletic program provides the opportunity for our students to compete in contests with other schools, thus aiding the students to make new friends and develop discipline and teamwork.
