Our Mission and Approach

Creating thoughtful, dynamic, and curious citizen-learners who “meaningfully contribute to a complex and diverse world with compassion and confidence” is central to Beacon Academy’s mission. Beacon’s college counseling program fulfills this mission by providing a student-centered, fit-based approach to the college discernment and selection process. Our college counselors lead students through an intentional, reflective process that encourages students to engage in deep and meaningful self-exploration. As a student comes to understand his or her values, ethics, strengths, and learning styles, counselors then work collaboratively with students and families to find a wide range of appropriate college matches based on a student’s academic, social, emotional, and financial needs. We believe that this process is not simply a means to a greater end but a powerful and potentially transformative learning opportunity in itself. We encourage students to explore a wide range of post-secondary options, always focused on the ultimate goal of guiding students to positive outcomes in their professional and personal lives.
